The Shamanic Tradition and Nature

In the shamanic traditions of the Amazon, healers, often called Curanderos or Ayahuasqueros, use plant medicines like Ayahuasca to open the spirit and offer insights. Learning from these teachers we work in partnership with nature’s wisdom, guiding participants through their experiences and supporting them in navigating their visions.

In practising shamanic techniques, we see ourselves as intermediary between the spiritual world and the natural world. In ceremony we may call upon the spirits of plants, animals, and the elements to assist in healing, and we view the work with Ayahuasca as a sacred relationship with the environment.

This connection underscores the belief that nature holds inherent wisdom and healing power, accessible through the use of plant medicine and deep attunement to the rhythms of the earth.

Healing with Grandmother Medicine & Nature

Sacred Grandmother medicine is a powerful psychoactive brew made from plants native to the Amazon rainforest, most notably the Banisteriopsis caapi vine and the Psychotria viridis leaf. Traditionally used by indigenous cultures in the Amazon Basin for centuries, it has recently gained attention in the West for its potential to facilitate deep emotional and psychological healing. Grandmother medicine is more than just a brew; it is a gateway to the depths of human consciousness and a bridge to the spiritual realm. For centuries, indigenous cultures have revered it as not only as a means of healing but as a profound tool for personal transformation and connection to the universe. The Medicine is known for inducing powerful visions and altered states of consciousness, often described as intensely introspective and transformative experiences.

The brew contains two main components:

DMT (dimethyltryptamine), a potent psychedelic compound

MAOIs (monoamine oxidase inhibitors), which allows DMT to be orally active and produce its effects.

In therapeutic contexts, the medicine can help individuals confront unresolved trauma, face emotional blockages, and gain deep insights into their personal lives. Many clients report experiencing healing from depression, anxiety, PTSD, and addiction. This is often facilitated by the visionary journey, where individuals can process past experiences, and gain new perspectives on their challenges, release emotional pain.

Nature's Role in Healing

The healing power of the medicine is also deeply connected to nature, as the brew is crafted from plants and administered in a natural, sacred, setting. Nature plays an essential role in the experience for several reasons.

The Flow of Nature as a Sacred Space :

The environment where Ayahuasca ceremony is held is not only important for the plants’ spiritual significance but also because of the natural setting's ability to enhance introspection. The sounds, smells, and sights of the jungle contribute to a heightened sense of connection to the earth, facilitating a profound sense of grounding and unity with the natural world.

Energetic Connection:

Nature is often seen as a reflection of our inner state, providing a mirror to the psyche. During ancestral medicine ceremonies, we feel deeply attuned to the rhythm of nature, observing how our emotional and mental states mirror the cycles and flows of the natural world around us.
